Conversations with Mother - Light Divine

LIGHT DIVINE

Sadhak: Mother,
Does the Divine punish injustice? Is it possible at all for Him to punish anybody?

THE MOTHER: The Divine does not see things as men do and has no need to punish or reward. Each and every action carries in itself its fruit and its consequences.

According to the nature of the action, it brings you near to the Divine or takes you away from Him, and that is the supreme consequence.

SAVITRI—A Legend and a Symbol

“All can be done if the god-touch is there.”
—BOOK I: The Book of Beginnings, CANTO I: The Symbol Dawn, p. 3

The writing of ‘SAVITRI’ extended over much of the later part of Sri Aurobindo’s life. The earliest known manuscript is dated 1916. The original narrative poem was recast several times in the first phase of composition. By around 1930, Sri Aurobindo had begun to turn it into an epic with a larger scope and deeper significance. Transformed into ‘A Legend and a Symbol’, SAVITRI became his major literary work which he continued to expand and perfect until his last days.

HARMONY AND PEACE

“Every day things seem to become worse. In truth we feel more and more disgusted with the old rotting world, and are more and more convinced of the necessity of founding, somewhere out of the well-trodden tracks, a new centre of life in which a new and truer light can be manifested, a new world no more based on selfish competitions and egoistic strife but on general and eager endeavours to promote the welfare, knowledge and progress of all—a society based on spiritual aspiration instead of lust for money and material power.”—THE MOTHER

“Good will for all and good will from all is the basis of peace and harmony.”
—THE MOTHER

As different parts of our country and the world suffers the effect of terror, strife, wars and hatred, it is time to call in the Divine help and pray for a brighter, better future.

The Mother says: “It is true that 'we' are passing through a difficult period ('we' means the world) but those who remain steady will get out of it much stronger than before.”

THE HOLY MONTH OF RAMADAN / RAMZAN

For over one billion Muslims throughout the world, Ramadan is a special month of the year. This year, it begins on May 27. Ramadan was traditionally held to be the month in which the first verses of the holy Quran were revealed to Prophet Mohammad. It is a time for inner reflection, devotion to God and self-control. During the month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day.

SRI AUROBINDO speaks of the place of Mahomed (Prophet Muhammad) and his mission in one of his aphorisms:

“Mahomed's mission was necessary, else we might have ended by thinking, in the exaggeration of our efforts at self-purification, that earth was meant only for the monk and the city created as a vestibule for the desert.”

In another writing, Sri Aurobindo says:
“Mahomed tried to re-establish the Asiatic gospel of human equality in the spirit. All men are equal in Islam, whatever their social position or political power, nor is any man debarred from the full development of his manhood by his birth or low original station in life. All men are brothers in Islam and the bond of religious unity overrides all other divisions and differences.”
—Sri Aurobindo

Divine Messages from Divine Mother

As we progress and purify ourselves of our egoism, our friendship with the Divine becomes more and more clear and conscious.

The aspiration is always the sign of the possibility and perseverance leads to the certitude of realisation.

Nature shall live to manifest secret God,
The Spirit shall take up the human play,

This earthly life become the life divine.
In her the conscious Will took human shape:
She only can save herself and save the world.
O soul, intruder in Nature’s ignorance,
Armed traveller to the unseen supernal heights,
Thy spirit’s fate is a battle and ceaseless march
Against invisible opponent Powers,
A passage from Matter into timeless self.
On the alter throwing thy thoughts, thy heart, thy works,
Thy fate is a long sacrifice to the gods
Till they have opened to thee thy secret self
And made thee one with the indwelling God.
This world was not built with random bricks of Chance,
A blind god is not destiny’s architect;
A conscious power has drawn the plan of life,
There is a meaning in each curve and line.
The mind of mortal man is led by words,
His sight retires behind the walls of Thought
And looks out only through half-opened doors.
A Magician’s formulas have made Matter’s laws
And while they last, all things by them are bound;
But the spirit’s consent is needed for each act
And Freedom walks with same pace with Law.
All hear can change if the Magician choose
The supermind shall claim the world for Light
And thrill with love of God the enamoured heart
And place Light’s crown on Nature’s lifted head
And found Light’s reign on her unshaking base.
“Thy peace, O Lord, a boon within to keep
Amid the roar and ruin of wild Time
For the magnificent soul of man on earth.
Thy calm, O Lord, that bears thy hands of joy.”
This in us laughs and weeps, suffers the stroke,
Exults in victory, struggles for the crown;
Identified with the mind and body and life,
It takes on itself their anguish and defeat,
Bleeds with Fate’s whips and hangs upon the cross,
Yet is the unwounded and immortal self
Supporting the actor in the human scene.

I of Human Self....Sri Aurobindo

This mortal life shall house Eternity’s bliss,
The body’s self taste immortality.
Then shall the world–redeemer’s task be done.
Sri Aurobindo

This strutting “I” of human self and pride
Is a puppet built by Nature for her use,
And dances as her strong compulsions bid,
Forcefully feeble, brilliantly obtuse.
Sri Aurobindo
